Gov. Sanford Praises Senate's Passage of Flag Bill
Columbia, S.C. - Gov. Mark Sanford today issued the following statement on the Senate's passage of H.4319, a bill that would give governors more discretion and authority to lower flags on state buildings upon the death of notable individuals not covered by the current state law:
"I want to thank the both bodies for acting so quickly in moving this bill through the legislative process," Gov. Sanford said. "Changing this law will not only allow us to honor the legacy of people like Rosa Parks, but would be an important step toward honoring the legacy of others in the future. I'd ask the General Assembly to move this bill to my desk as soon as possible for signature."
Gov. Sanford reiterated his intention to use his new authority on the day he signs the bill to lower flags immediately on all state buildings in honor of Rosa Parks.
