Gov. Sanford Announces Inauguration Day Schedule

Prayer Service to Proceed Inauguration, Ceremony to be Followed by Open House, Barbeque

Columbia, S.C. - Gov. Mark Sanford today announced his schedule for January 10th, 2007, the day he will be inaugurated as the third two-term Governor in state history. As he did in 2003, the governor will begin the day with a prayer service at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral prior to being sworn in by S.C. Supreme Court Chief Justice Jean Toal, and later in the evening the First Family will also host an inaugural barbeque.

"The inaugural is important for a couple of reasons, the biggest of which is that it's a very tangible reminder of the fact that this second term is indeed a new beginning, and a new chance to continue moving forward on our agenda for change," Gov. Sanford said. "As well, we decided to stick with our theme of doing a barbeque, because it's very much in keeping with our administration's consistent belief in opening up government and making it accessible to as many people as possible. We hope folks from across the state will join us as they did four years ago so we can thank them for their help and support."

The First Family's schedule for January 10th, 2007 is as follows:

9:00 a.m. -- Inaugural Prayer Service -- Trinity Episcopal Cathedral

11:00 a.m. -- Inauguration Ceremony -- Statehouse South Steps

2 p.m. to 4 p.m. -- First Family's Open House at Governor's Mansion

6 p.m. -- Inaugural BBQ -- S.C. Farmers Market Watermelon Shed. Tickets will be $60 per ticket.
